About 10x Genomics, Inc.

About 10x Genomics, Inc.

10x Genomics generated $642.8 million in revenue in 2025, up 5% from $610.8 million in 2024, with 8,046 cumulative instruments sold to researchers worldwide since launching its first product in mid-2015. During 2025, the company sold 1,007 instruments and 424,000 consumable reactions across its Chromium single-cell, Visium spatial, and Xenium in situ platforms. The 1,178-person workforce as of December 31, 2025 includes 332 in research and development, 473 in sales, marketing and support, and 188 in manufacturing.

Revenue comes from three instrument families plus consumable reagents and proprietary software. The Chromium platform partitions and barcodes individual cells for high-throughput multiomic readouts including gene expression, protein, chromatin, and V(D)J analysis; Visium uses high-density DNA arrays to map transcripts spatially across tissue sections; and Xenium performs in situ RNA detection using circularizable probes and fluorescent hybridization cycles, enabling subcellular spatial resolution without conventional sequencing. Chromium and Visium instruments are outsourced to contract manufacturers maintaining ISO 13485 certification, while Xenium final assembly and optical integration are performed in-house. The majority of consumables are manufactured at facilities in Pleasanton, California, Singapore, and Taiwan. Sales go primarily through a direct salesforce in North America and select regions of Europe, with third-party distributors serving regions of Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Academic and government institutions represent the largest portion of direct sales revenue; no single customer, including distributors, represented greater than 10% of business in 2025. Some components are sourced from a single supplier with no qualified second source, which could cause production delays if that supplier fails.

Show full overview

A substantial portion of 10x Genomics' revenue derives from sales to academic and research institutions relying on NIH grants and other government funding. In March 2025, the NIH terminated approximately 700 research grants totaling more than $2.4 billion covering studies related to breast cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and HIV prevention. A February 2025 NIH policy imposing a standard 15% indirect-cost rate — halted by a federal court injunction in March 2025 and upheld by the First Circuit in January 2026 — remains in an uncertain state, and the company believes delays or cancellations of such funding have caused, and in the future could weigh on, customer purchasing decisions.
