About Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc

About Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc

Thermo Fisher Scientific operates through four business segments—Life Sciences Solutions, Analytical Instruments, Specialty Diagnostics, and Laboratory Products and Biopharma Services—serving pharmaceutical and biotech companies, hospitals, clinical diagnostic labs, universities, government agencies, and environmental and industrial markets worldwide. The company employed approximately 125,000 colleagues at December 31, 2025, with 59,000 in the Americas, 44,000 in EMEA, and 22,000 in the Asia-Pacific region, distributing products through an approximately 14,000-person direct sales force plus electronic commerce and third-party distributors.

Life Sciences Solutions provides biosciences, genetic sciences, and bioproduction products to pharmaceutical and biotech research markets. Analytical Instruments covers chromatography and mass spectrometry, chemical analysis, and electron microscopy tools sold into pharmaceutical, environmental, semiconductor, and academic markets. Specialty Diagnostics serves clinical laboratories with diagnostic kits, immunodiagnostics reagents, microbiology culture media, and transplant diagnostics. Laboratory Products and Biopharma Services—which includes the Patheon pharma services brand and the PPD clinical research brand—bundles consumables and equipment procurement with outsourced drug development, manufacturing, and Phase I through Phase IV clinical trials. Revenue is historically stronger in the fourth quarter due to capital spending patterns among industrial, pharmaceutical, and government customers. The company's raw-materials policy states that no single supplier is material, though certain components may be sourced from sole or limited suppliers for quality assurance or regulatory requirements.

Thermo Fisher carries active environmental remediation obligations at two named Superfund sites: the Fair Lawn Wellfields site in New Jersey, where the company entered a consent decree with the USEPA in 2020 to finance a groundwater treatment plant that was constructed in 2025 and transferred to the Borough of Fair Lawn in January 2026; and the former Davis Landfill site in Smithfield, Rhode Island, governed by a 2021 consent decree amendment calling for an interim remedy expected to commence in 2026. Accrued environmental liabilities totaled $86 million at December 31, 2025, and the company acknowledges that future regulatory changes could increase remediation scope and cost.
