About Materion Corporation
About Materion Corporation
Materion Corporation generated $1.8 billion in net sales in 2025 across four operating segments — Performance Materials, Electronic Materials, Precision Optics, and Other — serving approximately 800 customers in semiconductor, industrial, aerospace and defense, automotive, energy, consumer electronics, and life sciences end markets. International operations, principally Europe and Asia, accounted for approximately 64% of net sales in 2025, up from 57% in 2024 and 51% in 2023. The company employed approximately 2,880 people globally at December 31, 2025.
Performance Materials, the largest segment, operates the world's largest bertrandite ore mine and refinery in Utah, which supplies beryllium hydroxide feedstock to downstream manufacturing facilities including Elmore, Ohio; Reading, Pennsylvania; and Tucson, Arizona. The segment produces beryllium and copper alloy strip, rod, plate, and specialized shapes for industrial, automotive, aerospace and defense, and energy applications. Electronic Materials manufactures vapor deposition targets, frame lid assemblies, precious metal pre-forms, and high-temperature braze materials primarily for semiconductor end markets, with in-house metal recovery and refining operations that allow recycling of precious metals from customer scrap. Precision Optics produces precision thin-film coatings, optical filters, and assemblies across Europe, Asia, and the U.S. for aerospace, defense, automotive, and semiconductor customers. Revenue in Electronic Materials and Performance Materials reflects precious metal pass-through pricing — net sales fluctuate with gold, palladium, silver, and other metal prices — while value-added margins are the more stable profit metric. In 2025, no single customer exceeded 10% of net sales. Materion competes with NGK Insulators, Aurubis, Honeywell International, and Viavi Corporation across its segments.

Materion's expanding international revenue share — rising from 51% of net sales in 2023 to 64% in 2025 — exposes the company to tariff and trade policy risk. The 10-K notes that the Trump administration has imposed broad-based global tariffs that could adversely impact trade relations, raise raw material costs, and give competitors opportunity to establish presence in markets where Materion participates. The company is also subject to increasingly complex requirements under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation, California privacy laws, and other data-protection regimes, with compliance costs expected to involve material investments depending on how regulatory requirements evolve.
